Preserving Intangible Heritage: Bharatanatyam
Bharatanatyam is one of the oldest and most revered classical dance forms of India. It originated in Tamil Nadu, in South India, and was traditionally performed in temples as a form of devotional offering to the deities, especially to Lord Shiva in his form as Nataraja, the cosmic dancer.
Bharatanatyam is one of five classical Indian dance forms featured in Divine Expressions: A VR Exhibition of Classical Indian Dances. Bharatanatyam's characteristic dance vocabulary, emotion, music, and rhythm will be showcased by dancers from Apsaras Dance Company - one of Singapore's premier performing arts company dedicated to preserving and promoting classical Indian dance through its academy, and its many local and international performances.
